influences

ok so I didn't necessarily look at certain artists but I researched different pieces based on their theme or how they relate to my work. I explored many different options and took a couple different angles to different aspects of my concentration.
The first and most basic element of my work is psychology and the mental effects my work has so I wanted to see some other "mind-art" and these pieces were ones that tested a person's level of observation and perception and their eye for details.
The next angle I took to my concentration was the idea of color. For this I found works by Karen Leeds very interesting. She worked with oil pastels, acrylics, and also dyes on silk. She paid a lot of attention to how certain colors go together and lines that will portray certain things and also how the eye will see the colors as more than just color but as a way of telling a story.
The last approach I took to influences was artists who worked with mixed medias and I found an assortment of pieces that people did to express patriotism, emotion, and personal stories. These work with various textures and also the use of color helping add to the overall tone.

Influences

The first influencing artist is Janine Antoni. She did a series of performance art in 1993 called Loving Care using only her hair. Janine laid out canvas, dipped her hair in paint, and, using her emotion about a particular object or everyday event, she moved and used her hair to paint her feelings. She was quoted, saying "I was doing work that was about pr
ocess, about the meaning of the making, trying to have a love-hate relationship with the object." She inspires me because her pieces try to capture emotion and meaning behind something through performance art, very similar to what i would like to do with my dance concentration using feet to capture the emotion of the music and the style of the movement.

Robert Kandinsky is said to be the one of the first pure abstraction artist in modern art. He is known for works that link hue, saturation, and tone (or shading) to pitch, volume, and timbre. Kandinsky uses brushstrokes and color to express movement in melody and harmony. Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul. Kandinsky inspires me because he embodies what I envisioned when my dance teacher Connie Dinapoli said to "dance in color". I would be doing similar paintings, but I would be drawing from movement as well as musical
harmony.

The last artist that inspires me is a friend of mine, named Keiko Guest. She specializes in dance based photography. I love her photos because they capture beauty of movement in black and white. Keiko's photos celebrate dance through the simplistic setting of light and sheer fabric and allowing the power and grace of the body be the main focus. Keiko inspires me as an artist and dancer because her photos capture the ultimate means of expression and emotion and are more than just action shots.

Art Influences

Brandon Stanton is photographer that inspires me. His project is called Humans of New York. He captures people's stories through his camera, but he also cares enough to learn about their life and document it.

For my concentration an artist that really inspires me is Sylvia (I don't know her last name. It isn't there) . I found her prints after looking for shadow pictures on the web for inspiration and hers are absolutely beautiful. The emotion she captures in the people speaks volumes when you never even see their faces. its cool

Leonid Afremov also inspires me alot. His manipulation of colors in real settings creates an imaginary landscape.

Influences

Over the summer I did some research looking at pictures that I thought would help me chose a concentration and as I searched I found these websites/photographers that I really liked.

Natalia Campell has several photographs of children and I feel like she really captured their innocence and vast imagination. These photographs helped me narrow down my concentration to imagination and fantasy seen through the eyes of children. Here is the link to some of her photography (I tried to post the pics but they are protected):

The other site applies less specifically to my concentration but while searching I cam across it and really liked the girley, vintage feel of the photos and they helped me get excited about the joys of childhood theme (Again the photos won't copy):

I also think that Howard David Johnson is incredible. He draws portraits using the same type and brand of colored pencils that Anna and I have been using and they are utterly amazing! They look like photographs. Here is the link to his work (Again it won't let me copy):http://www.howarddavidjohnson.com/pencil.htm

Another one of my major influences is my mom's friend Annie Landman. She is an artist who, right now, is painting landscape/home pictures in watercolor. (We have one in our house that I will try and post later but I am house-sitting right now and can't get a picture.) Ever since I was young she has been an inspiration to me because she was one of the first people I had ever witnessed creating art of their own. I used to take art and drawing classes from her and I think this is where my love of art originated from. She is also inspiring because art is not her profession but she enjoys it and finds time to "do it on the side" for both fun and profit. This is what I hope to be able to do down the line.
---
Finally, especially for my concentration, I draw inspiration from children. I have always loved babysitting and spending time with kids because of their vast imaginations. Children view the world with such wonder and have the ability to question everything and believe whatever they want without skepticism or criticism. As we get older we lose this ability and slowly get restrained and bogged down by our own problems and worries. We lose our ability to picture the sandbox as a beach or believe we are mermaids in the pool or believe Santa will come every Christmas. I feel like by spending time with kids, it gives adults the opportunity to go back to a time where nothing mattered and life was fun and carefree. This is the feeling that I hope to be able to portray in my artwork.

Influences

Since I have not sold myself on one concentration, this post will have a variety of influences and ideas.

Sculptures: "Passage of Time" (Young to Old)?

My influence for wanting to sculpt people or other objects is Phillipp Faraut. He has created some incredible portrait sculptures, varying in mediums. If I choose to go this way, then I will represent the passage of time with portrait sculptures that each demonstrate how age effects us. Here are some examples of Faraut's works:

Architectural Design Plans: "Structure Immersion"? (architectural wonders)
This topic is new, so I don't have to much to say about it. One influence would be Mrs. Stewart's friend, Sara Jones. She makes really interesting structural pieces and architectual plans. http://www.sara-jones.com/index.php?/project/drawings/.
There are pictures that I want to upload but they turn out huge.

I think that's about it.....yup it is.

Influences

Arief Kurniawan. In indonesian artist who posts his art to his deivant art. http://riefra.deviantart.com/. One of my favorite deviant art artists Arief attention to detail really inspires me. Even though he isn't a famous artist he makes me want to better my own work and take the time to employ as much detail as possible.

I really began to appreciate Vincent Van Gogh after watching an episode of doctor who, yeah that's right nerd right here, where they meet Van Gogh. I never realized all the things van Gogh went through in hsi life time. Besides the obvious influence of his amazing use of color, all his struggles and his persistence through tough times really inspired me.

Music in general as always been one of my favorites things, even though i don't play an instrument myself. I've always found listening to a certain song or genre helps me to capture emotion or to continue working on pieces I've given up on.

After learning about photorealistic works like those of chuck close in advanced art seminar i have grown confident about my artistic ability and believe annything can be drawn with a good idea, some source material, a photograph, some pencils, and a roll of toilet paper.
After seeing Salvador Dalis work at the high ive been inspired to accomplish the amount of fame he was able to accomplish with his art.
MOST IMPORTANTLY Ross Mathews is my biggest inspiration in everything i do he represents the gay community so well and i want to be like him. Hopefully Ross will go down and be recognized in history as a important part of gay culture and thats what i want for myself.
alsooo ive Finished the Tape and now im working on the Articles i took some newsprint from your room so i can experiment over the weekend.
